School Psychologist Ranu Bauer-Pugmire

For 12 years, Rani Bauer-Pugmire has been a dedicated school psychologist in Kent School District (KSD), starting her career as an intern and growing into a key figure in supporting students' academic and emotional development. As we celebrate National School Psychology Week, Rani’s work highlights the vital role school psychologists play in helping students thrive.

Rani’s journey into school psychology began with a passion for working with children. “I knew I wanted to focus on counseling or psychology,” she explains. Over time, she realized that as a school psychologist, she could blend her interests in mental health and education to make a real difference in students’ lives.

Now, as the K-5 school psychologist at Covington Elementary and one day a week at Cedar Heights Middle School, Rani works closely with teachers, counselors, principals, and families to ensure students get the support they need. “I’m always in contact with my principal and school counselor to make sure students who need extra help get it,” she says. As a district lead, she also supports other school psychologists by coordinating feedback, professional development, and case consultations. She also shares, "we have a great team of school psychologists in KSD."

Rani’s approach centers on building students' strengths, even when they face challenges. “I focus on what they’re doing well to build their confidence,” she shares. Whether she’s assessing students, meeting with families, or writing reports, Rani’s work is driven by a commitment to fostering growth and resilience.

Believing strongly in teamwork, Rani emphasizes the importance of building strong relationships with staff and families. “Collaboration is key to helping students succeed,” she says. Her focus on communication and partnership helps create a supportive environment where all students can thrive.

This National School Psychology Week, we celebrate Rani’s dedication and the invaluable role she plays in supporting students and staff in KSD. Through her collaborative approach and commitment to student strengths, Rani makes a lasting impact on the school community.
