Kentridge High School will be putting on the musical Aida for their fall production. Aida is set in Ancient Egypt and tells the story of a Nubian princess-turned-slave and an Egyptian captain who may soon inherit the throne. The two fall in love but are kept apart by their own loyalties and the prejudices of those around them. Although the musical takes place many centuries ago, the story's theme of "love flourishing in a time of hate" is still relevant today. Because of this, the director of the production, Jennifer Grajewski, feels that it is a particularly important story for young people to hear, so she has decided to offer a special discount specifically for middle school students. Middle school students can attend any performance of Aida for the discounted ticket price of $5. In order to receive this special discounted price, students must purchase their ticket at the door and show their current middle school ID. Tickets purchased online will be the regular ticket price of $10 for adults and $8 for students/seniors.

Veterans Day
Cedar Heights Middle School traditionally allows students to wear costumes to school for Halloween. Costume Day is Thursday, October 31, 2024. Students are allowed to wear a costume to school on this day only as long as students follow the school guidelines for costumes. As a reminder, there is no school on Friday, November 1, 2024 This letter is to outline for students and parents the expectations for costumes and behavior. If you/your child plans on dressing up on October 31, please take a moment to discuss the expectations with them. Please understand that we want the children to have fun, but it is still a school day and we want to ensure that quality instruction is still able to take place. Absolutely NO simulated weapons of any kind. No pretend swords, guns, grenades, knives, etc. Nothing that could possibly be perceived as a weapon or simulated weapon is allowed. Costumes must comply with the dress code. No short shorts or skirts, revealing tops, etc. Please use good judgment. Students may wear a wig. Costumes should not be so large or obtrusive to distract from their education or the education of peers. Student costumes need to be respectful of body images and should not emphasize negative stereotypes of any person, gender, or ethnicity. Cultural sensitivity is required. Students should not interfere with another person’s costume. No full face covering masks are allowed. Additionally, faces may be painted, but in small portions (a scar, for example) and the entire face may not be covered. Hair may be sprayed a different color, but no colored hair spray is allowed on campus. These items will be confiscated and not returned if brought to school. Thank you for taking the time to discuss these expectations with your children. We look forward to continuing this Timberwolf tradition and we are optimistic students will make positive choices regarding these activities and the opportunity to express themselves this Halloween.
