Dear KW Community, Before school this morning, 9/26, students came forward to report concerning screenshots of text messages referencing violence and weapons. Because of these students’ swift reporting, school administration was able to partner with Kent School Safety and law enforcement to investigate these reports. Currently, there does not appear to be any credible threat to any Kentwood community member or our school. In an abundance of caution there will be an increased school safety presence at Kentwood for the remainder of today. We sincerely thank our community members who are coming forward immediately to share any concerns so that we can continue to work to keep our community safe and maintain our focus on learning. Sincerely, Samantha Ketover, Ed.D. Principal

Starting as early as preschool and kindergarten, regular attendance is essential for students gaining the academic and social skills they need to thrive. Research shows that when students are chronically absent (missing 10% or more of the school year or 18 days over an entire school year), they are less likely to read proficiently by third grade, achieve in middle school and graduate from high school.

Reminder: All KSD buildings and the Administration Center will be closed today, Wednesday June 19, in observation of Juneteenth. Also known as Freedom Day, Juneteenth honors the end of slavery in the US and marks the day federal troops arrived in Texas in 1865, a full two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
