If approved by voters, the 2024 Capital Projects & Technology Levy provides funds for only critical or emergent needs to support students and staff in safe, maintained school buildings. It also funds technology education and infrastructure to prepare students for real-world jobs. This levy replaces the 2018 Capital and Technology Levy, which expires in December 2024.
This levy supports 14 technology needs and projects, and 28 critical repairs and safety projects (click the arrows below see an overview with estimated costs). The state provides no funding for levy projects and after December 2024, there is no voter-approved capital funding source.
These are estimated costs for each project. Approximately 8% of the Capital projects portion of the levy is for administrative operations and contingency funds, and 3% of the Technology portion is for administrative and operational salaries. Most of this equipment has reached or surpassed its expected lifespan, with warranties expired. As a result, we are seeing an increase in failure rates.
Watch an informative video about what this levy supports. It is not a new tax and replaces the 2018 Capital and Technology Levy.
Please watch this short video to learn about the impacts should this levy not pass.
We understand the tax sensitivity in our community. To that end, the amount of this levy has been reduced by 49% compared to the April 2024 levy proposition that did not pass.
Levy year 2025, rate per $1,000 is $0.72, levy amount is $32,200,000
Levy year 2026, rate per $1,000 is $0.70, levy amount is $32,600,000
Levy year 2027, rate per $1,000 is $0.68, levy amount is $33,000,000
To help voters understand the impact of tax measures on their property tax rate, as well as their final tax bill, King County has developed the Tax Transparency Tool.
Calculates the estimated cost of property tax measures for each piece of property within the taxing district proposing the tax measure.
Voters can look up the properties they own.
Includes a link to the King County Elections website where voters can review the language of the ballot measures.
As we work to secure funding for our schools, we want to ensure that we are open, honest, and transparent with our community. Our goal is to build trust by listening to the voices of our families and community members to ensure everyone's perspective is heard and valued.
During upcoming levy listening sessions, you can learn the details of the levy and its impact on our schools. These sessions will also provide a collaborative opportunity to discuss the levy information campaign, and how we can work together to communicate levy facts to our greater Kent School District community.
We encourage everyone to attend and provide input that will be instrumental in distributing levy information and ensuring that we are transparent and responsive to the needs of our community.
