Kindergarten Dual Language Lottery

The Kent School District Dual Language (DL) program helps students become bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate in both English and Spanish. Incoming kindergarten students can apply to Kent Elementary, Neely-O'Brien Elementary, or Scenic Hill Elementary through an annual application and weighted lottery process held in the winter before the school year starts.

Now Accepting Kindergarten Dual Language Applications for 2025-2026

We are accepting online applications for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year through Monday, March 31, 2025. If you would like to enter your child in the kindergarten Dual Language lottery, please apply online.

Families will be notified of the decision by April 15, 2025. After April 15, please contact Kent Elementary, Neely-O'Brien Elementary, or Scenic Hill Elementary directly to check for available space.

Lottery Process

A weighted lottery is used to determine student placement in the Dual Language (DL) program for kindergarten based on priority groups. Two separate waiting lists are established to ensure the program is evenly filled with native Spanish speakers and those who speak other languages.  

  1. A waiting list for students who speak Spanish as their home language.

  2. A waiting list for students who speak any other language.
