PSAT/SAT

KSD decided in 2021 to discontinue school-day administration of PSAT and SAT. This decision was based upon research showing that less than 10% of KSD (Kent School District) graduates needed the SAT to meet their high school graduation requirements. Additionally, the majority of KSD graduates who enrolled in college directly after high school enrolled at state college or university programs that removed the SAT as an entrance requirement.

In recent years, many admissions departments have revised their requirements for standardized admission tests, shifting to test-optional (e.g. Washington Public Colleges) or test-blind (e.g. University of California schools) policies. The SAT may still be optional for your student, depending on what colleges they decide to apply to. Be sure to check the admissions requirements for each school to learn their specific processes. Policies can change, so it is crucial to check the college’s website or contact the admissions office to confirm their current policy.

The Executive Cabinet reviewed this decision in September 2023 and agreed to uphold the current practice.
