At a special meeting on February 11, 2025, the Kent School Board voted to appoint Teresa Gregory to fill the vacancy for Board Director District 4, following the resignation of Mr. Awale Farah on January 8, 2025. Due to availability of our new board member, Teresa Gregory will take the Oath of Office during the regular board meeting on February 12, 2025. The appointment term will begin on February 12, 2025, and will run until the beginning of the regular board meeting on December 10, 2025.

“We are confident that Teresa Gregory will bring valuable perspectives and leadership to the Kent School Board,” said Superintendent Vela. “We look forward to welcoming this new board member to our School Board Governance Team and working together for the continued success of our students and the district.”

The process to appoint the new board member began on January 8 with the announcement of the vacancy. The application period opened the following day, January 9, and closed on January 31. During special meetings on February 5, the board reviewed applications and selected finalists to interview on February 11. After careful consideration, the board selected Teresa Gregory to fill the vacancy.

The onboarding process spans several dates beginning February 13 and will include review of core topics such as board and superintendent responsibilities, district operations, policies, procedures, and a legal review which will include the Open Public Meetings Act (OPMA).
